Armed work pays more and demands more, and the training should reflect that. Our armed path in Manassas gives you the full Virginia DCJS sequence, taught by certified firearms instructors who take it seriously. You leave trained, qualified, and ready to register.
What the training covers and what it costs
- 01E Core Subjects, 18 hours, $120
- 05E Arrest Authority, 8 hours, $125
- 75E Security Officer Handgun, 24 hours, $250
- 08E Shotgun (optional), 3 hours, $200
Together the armed path runs about 50 hours. You train on the law, on judgment, and on live handgun skills, because all three matter when you are armed on post.
Prerequisites
You do not need a prior certification to start, since this path includes the 01E core. You must meet Virginia’s legal requirements to possess and carry a firearm, and you must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident for the firearms portion.
From class to working armed
Finishing the class is not the finish line. You also submit fingerprints, register with DCJS, and complete your firearms qualification on record. We walk you through each step.
Keeping your certification current
Armed officers requalify on a schedule. We run firearms requalification (07R, 4 hours, $110) and in-service (01I, 4 hours, $50) on Mondays and Fridays.
Common questions
Do I need the 01E first?
No. The armed path includes the 01E core.
Does finishing the class let me work armed right away?
Not by itself. Your DCJS registration and firearms qualification have to be on record first.
Can I add shotgun?
Yes, the 08E module is available.
